Aldi Weekly Ad - Aldi (ALDI) is a leading global public two discount supermarket chain with more than 10,000 Shops in 18 countries, and the estimated combined turnover of more than € 50 billion. Based in Germany, the chain founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946 when they took over their mother's store in Essen which has been in operation since 1913. The brothers who built the chain stores until, by 1960, they had 300 shops, and split the operation into two separate groups, which later became the Aldi Nord, headquartered in Essen; and Aldi Süd, headquartered in the nearby Mülheim. The two operate independently, each in a different geographic area. Both are among the world's largest privately owned companies.
In 1962, they introduced the Aldi name (syllable stands for Albrecht Diskont), which is pronounced. In Germany Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd has financially and a separate law since 1966, although the name of the second divisions may appear (as if they are a company that single) with brand specific stores or when negotiating with contractor companies. Formal business name is Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Compagnie, oHG.
A group of individuals who originally owned and managed by the brothers. Karl Albrecht (d. 2014) retain ownership of the Aldi Süd, and with personal wealth of € 17.2 billion, making him the wealthiest man in Germany, while a joint owner of the Aldi Nord, Berthold and Theo Albrecht Jr., close behind the € 16 billion. Dieter Schwarz, Lidl and Kaufland owner came in third, with a wealth of € 11.5 billion. Aldi Germany operations consist of Aldi Nord 35 each company area with approximately 2,500 Stores in the West, North, and East Germany and 32 local Aldi Süd with 1,600 Stores in Western and southern Germany.
